Commission Charity Ball Gala Proceeds Should Go To Junior Fair Board and Ag Society
This meeting had the first mention of a Commission Charity Ball Gala being proposed for August 13 and to be held at Hueston Woods. My view is that at least some of the money raised from this event should go to the Preble County Jr. Fair Board and the Ag Society. This Preble County Commission has never lacked the ability to find funding for the Goose Creek project. They have consistently been woefully neglectful of the huge impact that the agricultural industry has on Preble County. The Ag Society needs money to maintain the Preble County Fairgrounds, which has the ability to draw out of county money into Preble County. It is not enough to complain about the lack of weather proofing at the recent Expo held there or the cold temperatures at the New Paris Kiwanis Swap Meet. If the Ag Society cannot afford to do it, then there is a probable chance of a loss of future positive economc impact. The pursuit of economic growth should not be limited to spending money on Goose Creek while ignoring agriculture.
If the Preble County Commissioners choose to hold a Great Gatsby affair while Preble County is in the throes of some of the consistently highest unemployment since the Great Depression then at the very least let’s make sure the money goes to alleviate some of their neglect. It is only fitting that in these Dicksonian times that the Preble County Commissioners hold a Gatsby type affair and while dressing in formal wear aid those they have put in need. The Preble County Commissioners are to be congratulated for trying to raise money for charity; it is, however, a shame that at least some of the need is caused by their own actions.

Last week had a lengthy discussion and work session on Gas to Energy. Also mentioned was the reciept of a letter from RAPCA which I requested and can be downloaded for review. I also requested additional information that was mentioned at last week's March 30 meeting. This should be of interest because the County Engineer wondered where the $900,000 would come from for the collection system that currently RAPCA wants in by the end of November 2011. The county is hoping that CoGeneration Consultants will pick up the tab with a gas to energy system. For more on this issue review File 5 of the January 19, 2011 meeting.
