Comments on the evening meeting (Monday).
It is best to listen to this audio and draw your own conclusions.
1 hr. 18.5 Minute mark Commissioner Stonecash – offers his views. Bob continues to blame the public for not knowing the facts. Bob claims it (economic development) is not at government expense but neglects to mention the Conveyance tax that he voted to raise one full mill and pays for Shawnda Combs and a secretary's salary. Bob is entitled to his opinion but the continued negativity exhibited by the comments prevalent in this audio file by both commissioners only serves to divide people. Mr. Yorke's comments on $5 million for expansion of water and sewer to the Stateline from New Paris were offered as a comparison to a cost estimate given of around $7 million for Goose Creek. The Stateline overlooks tens of millions of dollars of retail investment on the Indiana side. A review of the Monday evening meeting shows that Mr. Yorke asked if grants had been pursued for any other areas and Ms. Combs stated that with regard to infrastruture "none". The 30.29 acres of land the Preble County commission (not the Preble County Development Partnership) still holds an option to buy on at Goose Creek overlooks the back of a truckstop, motel and long closed restaurant at exit 10. It highlights the inability of this commission to make competent decisions and it also shows a lack of backbone from the current Preble County Development Partnership to take a stand on these issues. The leachate line scandal is only one example. While Bob insists the two entities are separate and the Partnership is "private business" a review of the May 4, 2011 meeting shows Jeff Sewert offering that the Preble County Development Partnership executive committee supported the increase of both the permissive license plate tax and an additional 3% bed tax. Mr. Sewert is the Village Admin of Lewisburg and that is not "private business".
