Robertson Votes NO on Pay Raises By Judge as Morale Issue

This meeting has another 2 – 1 commission endorsement for pay rate adjustments (pay raises) from Judge Dues with Chris Day & Dave Wesler voting in favor and Denise Robertson voting against.  My view is that Day & Wesler given past comments on careful spending should have voted “no” along with Commissioner Robertson. The Judge can then court order the raises and the commission would be forced to comply. If the Judge wants his employees to have pay raises then let him order the raises. The reason for the commission to vote “no” is the potential morale issue of General Fund & other county employees who may not be getting pay raises as well as the upcoming FOP union negotiations in 2014. Day and Wesler have undermined a hold the line on expenses attitude with their votes. The obvious question from other county employees if they don’t get pay raises is why did Day & Wesler vote for pay increases for some but not all?  I am also going to call Public Relations Bull Shit on the meeting held Monday regarding Indirect Cost Billing as a waste of time given Day & Wesler’s lack of political common sense. Why should any department work with them if their employees are not granted pay raises when Day & Wesler voted for pay rate adjustments for others?  The votes from Day & Wesler should be seen from all other departments as a green light on pay raises. All other departments should now come to the commission wanting similar pay rate adjustments. Why them and not you?  Let the public hold them accountable for their votes at the next election.

Commissioner Robertson – Judge Dues has sent down this is the third set of pay increases. Are these the same people or is this new? I mean I have never heard of anyone getting three pay increases in a year.

Connie – They are different.

Vote is 2 – 1 with Commissioner Robertson against. My view is that the other two commissioners (Day & Wesler) should have voted no along with Commissioner Robertson. The Judge can then court order the raises and the commission would be forced to comply. The reason for the commission to vote no is the potential morale issue of General Fund employees who may not be getting pay raises as well as the upcoming FOP union negotiations in 2014. Day and Wesler have undermined a hold the expense line attitude and essentially made that meeting held Monday on Indirect Cost billing a waste of time.
