Having discovered the existence of two separate audio files of the February 6 meeting, one the usual bad audio and one very good audio I made a trip into the commission February 13 and requested I get the good copy from now on.  My view is that I should have been receiving whatever copies existed all along.  Audio file listeners will hear much improved audio starting with this meeting.

This was a very good meeting and offers a review of some of the efforts put forth by the Preble County Development Partnership.  Anyone who has time and is interested in the subject of the skill shortage vs. the jobs available in this country and county should find File 2 interesting. This is a needed effort that I think everyone will hope moves the county forward. It does not by any means make up for Partnership missteps or flat out incompetence with regard to hiding behind not taking a position on any number of other issues. The Partnership that makes claims of being for economic development sat silent on the decision to build a leachate line to Lakengren instead of Camden an area with rail and highway frontage. This Partnership sat idly by when a lodging tax was raised to a level higher than area competition of the local businesses expected to collect a tax they did not want. File 2 represents a fine effort that will hopefully have a positive impact in the future. The key word being “future”, poor decisions like those mentioned will have a much quicker negative impact and need to be measured with the claims made of future success. One thing needs to be mentioned; Leadership of organizations such as this one know or should know that not taking a position is viewed as "no opposition" and for all practical purposes political agreement.  Hiding behind a political fig leaf while proclaiming future success stands side by side with steps already taken that have negative impact. The Partnership needs to learn they can't stink the place up and then expect to be congratulated for bringing deodorizer. All the back slapping and claims of having other areas of the state and country call to see how Preble did something is great for the ego and PR but belies the fact that there have been no jobs created. These are fine first steps but the celebration of success with job creation has yet to be seen.

Any citizen out there that wants to be tested, it is already set up for them they can simply call and make an appointment. They do that, they do it every Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. – at no charge. This is a good deal, don't hestitate to take them up on the offer.

Currently testing High School seniors and assessment takes three hours. Three groups: Applied mathamatics, Reading for information, Locating information.
