I’d like to once again thank Preble County Auditor Lavon Wright for forwarding this budget information to me for public release.  These reports give you an idea of the financial state of the county.  

For those keeping track the 1 mill conveyance tax that was levied for “economic development” is now in positive territory by $87,914,86. At some point the question needs to be asked if some of that money can be put to better use such as a contribution to a revolving loan fund to aid in economic development that was promised.  The county maintains a $100,000 in-kind contribution to the Preble County Development Partnership of which $88,000 is financial aid and $12,000 is providing office space in the annex across from the courthouse.  On August 24, 2009 then Commissioner Bob Stonecash stated the responsibility of the public for holding the county responsible fell on the public. Hearings stated the intent was for the funds to be used for economic development and that is not the same as inflating the General Fund balance.

My intent was to discontinue preble411 as it was originally for commission audio review and I have not done any in months.  There is however these reports and I feel they are important.
