Commission Releases Escrow Funds on Goose Creek Fiasco

This was a very short meeting at less than 27 minutes; it was also the only meeting of the week.  July 9 was the two year anniversary and expiration of the option to buy the 30.29 acres at Goose Creek.  The vote was 2 – 0 to release the escrow money to the Kemps. This brings an end to that chapter of the Goose Creek fiasco. Citizens should however be aware that as of July 13, 2012 the county continues to maintain a webpage for Goose Creek.  No other area of the county has such a web presence. It is wrong to mislead company representatives searching the web for site locations and stumble across the Goose Creek webpage. It needs to come down; it should have been down already as it negatively impacts other areas of the county that want development.  For the Preble County Commission and Economic Development Director to continue to claim that all areas of the county get equal billing for economic expansion is quite simply also misleading the citizens of Preble County.  The Goose Creek website is fiction and it needs to come down. The county neither owns land nor holds an option to buy land in that area.

The meeting closed with Bob Stonecash taking issue with “those people that saw something wrong with us getting grant money”   Bob did not mention any names and his claim should be suspect. The grant or settlement money is for tearing down dilapidated residential properties in the county.

Connie asks if they will be available for Lewisburg Derby Days August 18.

Bob hopes so.

Received $15,000 check from the Clerk of Courts for the board to use as it sees fit. Preferable for public safety. Last year he helped out with the fuel bill at the Sheriff's department. Deposited in the General Fund.

19.15 Minute mark    Connie – I will be receiving the check from Twin Valley Bank tomorrow morning for Keith and Betsy Kemp and will deliver it immediately to Mrs. Kemp, along with all item stated in the purchase agreement, as required.

Bob – Ok.

19.75 Minute mark   Connie – We did get notification from the state on our demolition grant….  received the money. Nine villages and seven townships passed resolutions in support.

Two townships passed resolution of support but had no properties they wanted to submit.

21.5 Minute mark   Bob Stonecash – ..to those people that saw something wrong with us getting grant money because it was their tax dollars, should be very happy that something like this is happening in Preble County, because it is tax dollars. Myself, I really prefer Preble County get it than Meigs County or Franklin County or somewhere like that. That's my only comment, I think it is a great thing that we were able to achieve this and those people that don't see that need to look at the value of it.

Commissioner Wesler – I think this was actually a settlement

Connie – It was a settlement.

Commissioner Wesler – So I think each county had the opportunity to take their portion of what they had coming to them.

Connie – Correct.

Commissioner Wesler – So

Listen to the audio file for full comments. Apparently there were people against the grant/settlement and Bob wanted them to know his view.

Dave will write about the demolition grant in the next Commissioners Corner.
