Children’s Housing Busting Budget at JFS / Children’s Services – Commissioners Grill NIC on Tent Inspections

First item of major concern is the explosion in the expense of caring for children mentioned in the Children’s Services report.  The budget cannot with stand six more months at the current expense rate.  Some of the underlying causes for the issue were mentioned in the JFS report.  If the costs are not lowered dramatically and soon the county General Fund will take a major hit.  Listen to the audio.

Second item of concern is the issue of permit requirement on tents for festivals that became an issue at the circus this past May in New Paris.  It had not been an issue before and frankly those who take the time to listen to this audio will probably be even more upset.  The City of Eaton handles its own permit inspections and apparently has no intention of enforcing this issue to the point that the rest of the county will be subject to under the county oversight.  I congratulate the City for their position.  Listen to the audio.

Commissioner Wesler asks about tents used for funerals.

NIC representative claims that "no-one" has ever pulled a permit for a tent at a funeral.

Good discussion with good questions from Chris Day & Dave Wesler. Listen to the audio. My personal question is why if a festival rents a tent that has been rented before and permitted then why does it need a permit each and every time?

Commissioner Robertson asks for clarification on "commercial" and "residential" – apparently the same tent can be used for residential without a permit.

Commissioner Day inform the rep the code does not say that.

Ohio Commercial Building Code.
