2ND PUBLIC HEARING – PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO LANDFILL RATES & CHARGES

1 hr. 30 Minute    Kevin Thorpe. Good discussion and he asks good questions.

Discussion on the cost of a tipper (cost $500,000) and need to move it around.

1 hr. 40.5 Minute    Randy Blaich. Concern about another assessment increase on businesses. Concern over no contract with Rumpke to bring in more trash. I expressed the same concern on Wednesday.

388 business rates are going down.

368 going up.

Commission goal is to lower assessments and that requires more trash at landfill.

200 more tons a day would lower life expectancy of landfill to an "estimated" 25 years. Currently 48 – 50 years.

I think what may be being missed here is that if the tonnage going to the Preble County landfill continues to drop there will be a need to increase revenue locally with rate and or assessment increases. Doing so would further harm local businesses.  The only way to increase the tonnage at this time is by taking out of county trash.
