Plein air painters can hone their skills this summer during a one-day workshop at the Visual Arts Center of Preble County. Ray Hassard, an internationally recognized artist from Cincinnati, will be teaching the workshop on Saturday, July 19th at Hueston Woods State Park, just north of Oxford, Ohio.

An award winning artist, Ray Hassard's plein air experiences have taken him all over Ohio and Indiana as well as internationally, including India, Bhutan, Spain, Croatia and most recently, France. He is a member of the Ohio Plein Air Society, the Indiana Plein Air Painters Association, the MidAmerica Pastel Society, the Pastel Society of America, and the Cincinnati Art Club, and teaches pastels in Covington Kentucky and Cincinnati and workshops throughout the country.

This workshop will begin at 9 am with a discussion of techniques for creating a successful plein air painting and a demonstration. Following that, students will work on their own paintings with guidance from Ray. The day will end at about 4:30, though students will be free to continue on their own as long as they like.

Ray will be working in pastel, but oils and water-based media are also welcome and a supply list will be provided.

The cost of the workshop is $75 for Preble County Art Association members (annual membership is only $25!) and $95 for non-members and includes an informal picnic lunch.
