This flyer apparently went out to Lakengren area residents, I heard about it from a couple people yesterday. Someone finally emailed me a copy today; they had thrown it out and dug it out of the garbage.

For background:

Back in 2003-2004 a grant was found to start and cover the cost of recycling in Lakengren. By all accounts it was a big success. The issue (last year) was that the grant was for one year and the county taxpayer had apparently been subsidizing recycling in Lakengren since that time. 

It has been almost five months since I reviewed commission audio and I thought this issue was solved.  My memory is that Lakengren is handling the recycling and now delivering it to the landfill – case closed. 

I listened to commission audio for over six years and I know Dave Wesler supports recycling as he has commented on the record many times about taking his to National Trail. The Wesler objection as I recall was over any additional cost to the Preble County taxpayer not living in Lakengren and concern that if the county did continue to subsidize it other communities may insist on the same thing.

Before anyone asks; no I have not received a call from the Wesler campaign on Rodney raising taxes.

The next thought that comes to mind is that this has got to be the most expensive county commission primary race between two candidates ever. I’d be surprised if any other race even comes close and all this for a job that pays in the mid $40,000 range?
